How to choose a wedding photographer?
Choosing a wedding photographer is an important decision as they will capture one of the most significant days of your life.
Here are some steps to help you choose the right wedding photographer:
- Determine your photography style: Before you start searching for a photographer, decide on the photography style you prefer. Do you like traditional, classic poses, or do you prefer a more candid, photojournalistic approach? Understanding your style preferences will help narrow down your choices.
- Set a budget: Determine your budget for wedding photography. Photographers′ prices can vary greatly, so having a budget in mind will help you focus on options that are within your price range.
- Do your research: Look for photographers in your area by asking for recommendations from friends, family, or your wedding planner. You can also search online, visit wedding websites, and browse social media platforms to find photographers whose work aligns with your style.
- Review portfolios: Once you have a list of potential photographers, take the time to review their portfolios. Look for consistency in their work, attention to detail, and their ability to capture the emotions and moments that are important to you. Pay attention to the lighting, composition, and overall aesthetic of their photographs.
- Meet and interview potential photographers: Reach out to your shortlisted photographers and schedule meetings or phone calls to discuss your wedding details. Use this opportunity to ask about their experience, their approach to weddings, and any specific requests or ideas you have in mind. This is also a chance to gauge their personality and ensure you feel comfortable with them as they will be with you throughout your wedding day.
- Ask for references and reviews: Request references from previous clients or read reviews online to get a sense of the photographer′s professionalism, reliability, and quality of their work. Hearing about others′ experiences can provide valuable insights into what you can expect.
- Discuss packages and pricing: Inquire about the packages and pricing options the photographer offers. Make sure you understand what is included in each package, such as the number of hours of coverage, the number of edited photos you will receive, and whether an album or prints are included.
- Consider their personality and communication style: It′s essential to choose a photographer who not only produces excellent work but also fits well with your personalities. They will be interacting with you, your family, and your guests throughout the day, so it′s important to feel comfortable and confident in their presence.
- Review the contract: Once you have made your decision, carefully review the photographer′s contract. Ensure that all the agreed-upon services, deliverables, and pricing are clearly outlined. If there are any concerns or questions, discuss them with the photographer before signing.
- Trust your instincts: Finally, trust your gut feeling. If you have done your research, met with the photographer, and feel a connection with their work and personality, it′s likely a good fit. Choosing a photographer who aligns with your vision and makes you feel at ease will contribute to a positive experience on your wedding day.
Remember, wedding photography is an investment, and taking the time to find the right photographer who can capture your special moments in a style you love is well worth the effort.

5) How much do you need to invest in a wedding photographer or videographer?
1) Why is it good not to underestimate pre-wedding photography?
A pre-wedding shoot, also known as an engagement shoot, is a great opportunity to get to know your photographer and get used to their style of work. In addition, thanks to these photos, you can get beautiful and personal images that you can use for wedding invitations, websites or decorations at the wedding. At the same time, you can try, for example, which makeup and hairstyle suit you best. All of this helps reduce stress and nervousness on your wedding day because you know what to expect. The photo shoot can be just for 15-20 minutes as part of the pre-wedding meeting, but if you enjoy it or you care about the photos, it is not a problem to spend several hours taking photos and moving to different favorite places.
2) Why is it good not to underestimate the photography of wedding preparations?
Photography of wedding preparations captures unique moments full of emotions and expectations. It′s those moments when the bride is getting ready for her big day, surrounded by family and friends. These moments are often very emotional and natural, which creates beautiful and authentic photographs. In addition, photography of the preparations documents the entire wedding journey from the beginning to the ceremony itself, which provides a complete picture of the entire day. When you look at these photos years later, it will take you back to those exciting moments before the wedding. At the same time, we will finally get to know each other a little during the preparations, if there was no pre-wedding photo shoot, connected with the pre-wedding meeting. Personally, I recommend making arrangements with the photographer or cameraman to arrive 2-3 hours before the ceremony, depending on whether everything is in one place or if there are any moves.
3) Why is it good to discuss the wedding schedule with the photographer as well?
A photographer plays a key role in capturing the most important moments of the day, so it is important to include them in the planning of the wedding schedule. The photographer can advise you on the best time to shoot based on daylight, or how long it takes to take specific types of photos. By coordinating your schedule with the photographer, you′ll ensure there′s enough time for all the important shots while avoiding unnecessary stress and rushing. A professional photographer also knows how to make the most of the light and environment, which will lead to better results. Personally, I recommend having a harmonogram as an orientation and just for you. It is enough to indicate to the guests only the time of the ceremony or possibly the feast.
5) How much do you need to invest in a wedding photographer or videographer?
Investing in a wedding photographer and videographer is one of the most important items on the list of wedding expenses. You will have these memories for a lifetime, which is why it is important to choose quality professionals who will capture the atmosphere and emotions of your day exactly as you wish. The price for the services of a photographer or videographer can vary significantly depending on experience, style and location.
It is generally recommended to allocate approximately 10-15% of the total wedding budget to the photographer and videographer. If you are planning a smaller wedding with a lower budget, it can be a higher percentage. For example, if your wedding budget is USD 40,000, the investment in a photographer and videographer should be around USD 4,000-6,000. Of course, if you have higher demands, for example if you want a photo book, a full day of photography or drone filming or you are eloping, this amount can be higher.
It is important to remember that quality and experience really pay off in this area. It′s not just about capturing moments, but also about artistic processing, post-production and the overall presentation of the resulting photos and videos. It is also important to understand that with a higher investment you also have a greater guarantee that something will not go wrong. An experienced photographer, for example, always takes photos with two cameras, both with two cards, so that in the event of damage to one card there is no loss of data, he then backs up the photos in several places at home, and this also entails higher costs for technology. Therefore, the price should not be the only criterion when choosing a photographer or videographer. Always make sure that their style suits you and that they understand your idea of how you want to capture your wedding day.
